Mixing Worship Drums Part 1 - EQ and Gate
Nov 05, 2024
HERE WE GO!
So many people have been asking how I mix worship drums. I decided to do it in a 3 part series!
Part 1: OUT NOW is all about EQ and Gating.
Drums is a big undertaking so I really wanted to parcel it out step by step in a format anyone can really follow.
Part 1 Notes:
- First thing to do is make sure your drums are phase aligned properly
- Get gates on your drums. It will clean up so much bleed and you’ll be able to EQ without having to worry about other drums being effected. I recommend Black Salt Audio’s Silencer.
- Subtractive EQ. Use a parametric EQ to remove any unwanted frequencies. Most drums need a lot of 250hz-1200hz taken out. Use your ears and clean those drums up! My favorite parametric EQ is the FabFilter Pro-Q3
- Additive EQ. Use an analog style EQ to add some top or bottom end to make your drums stick out. I really love any of the SSL 4K-E style EQs for this. But you can use literally any analog style EQ to add some zest into your drums.
